    Baptism

    Baptism - Mr. Dan Wells
On Sunday, December 31, the First Baptist Church of Oxford accepted the
spoken testimony of one our deacons, Daniel J. Wells, and thus followed through
with a biblical baptism, a vote for full membership and a ‘confirmation’
vote of accepting him as a chosen servant-deacon.  Following many months of
self-examination, intense Bible study, counsel with his pastors and
deacons and prayer, Dan came to the Holy Spirit’s conviction that he must be
biblically baptized.  His testimony is that as a boy he trusted the Lord as his
personal Savior.  The fact that his Baptist mother is married to his Church of
Christ father complicated his baptism by immersion.  Not only did his Church
of Christ pastor initially refuse to baptize him (because Dan claims he did not
tell the pastor he wanted to be baptized for the remission of sins but to simply
be obedient to the Lord now that he was already saved) but when this
pastor did baptize him, he did so under duress, with an attitude that this
‘boy’ does not understand salvation/baptism and then blatantly used the words “for
the remission of sins” when he put Dan under the water.  Thus the
testimony of Dan’s baptism was skewed! Not that the mode was incorrect or that Dan
did not understand but that what was preached and understood by all present
that day was that Dan was baptized for the remission of sins!
With great peace and upon the authority of God’s Word, Daniel J. Wells
was biblically baptized by immersion in the Name of the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit by the First Baptist Church of Oxford, Michigan on Sunday, January 30, 2007.
